Soon after that report came out, Rutherford rode with me. Being a neophyte to Pharam sales, I thought he was coming out to give me the axe. I was far from wrong; he was coming out to get to know and help me. During that time together, Rutherford helped me tremendously with demanding customers and taught me how to look at my business differently. By the end of that year, I took the territory from dead last to ranking in the top five. I won Rookie of the Year. I finally felt I belonged because I had a leader who showed me how and believed I could do it.

Fast-forward to today. I am approaching my tenth year in pharma sales and have won awards and contests. I am considered a leader in clinical knowledge and system analytics on my current and past teams. Rutherford taught me the importance of targeting and segmenting. He also emphasized teamwork and using my available resources—all of them! I use these tactics to this day, which is why I have had success.

Lastly, on a personal note, during my time at Sanofi, I was considering matriculation and pursuing my Master's in Healthcare Administration. Rutherford undoubtedly encouraged and motivated me to do this. He explained how vital furthering my education was to my personal and professional development."
